BJD Holds Preparatory Meeting for Public Outreach Padayatra

BJD to Reach Out to People Over Alleged Failures of the Double-Engine Government Baripada, October 3 (PNS): A preparatory meeting of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) regarding its public outreach programme was held in Mayurbhanj district. As per the direction of former Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, the party’s Jan Sampark Padayatra began on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, and will continue for a month until November 2, the birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan. In this connection, a preparatory meeting was organized in Mayurbhanj district. BJD leaders alleged that the “double-engine government” had failed to fulfil the promises made to the people during the elections over the past two-and-a-half years. They claimed that farmers, youth, students, women, tribal communities, Dalits, minorities and people from various sections of society had been let down. The BJD leaders also alleged that the state government’s shortcomings were evident in several areas, including the law-and-order situation, alleged increase in crimes against women, issues related to the Central Government’s MMDR Act, errors in textbooks and the SIR process. The meeting decided that the BJD would reach out to the people and raise issues concerning public problems during the month-long Jan Sampark Padayatra. The preparatory meeting was attended by BJD district president and former minister Sudam Marandi, Mayurbhanj-2 district president Dr. Debashish Marandi, former Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi, Zilla Parishad President Bharati Hansda, Baripada Municipal Chairperson Krishnananda Mohanty, MCC Bank President Subramanyam Mohanty, former district president Debashish Mohanty, former working president Jitendra Mohanty, former MLA Raj Kishore Das, Pritinanda Kanungo, Sundar Mohan Singh, Shrabani Das, Arun Barad, Sunil Kumar Nayak, Abhas De, Diptilekha Mishra, Prabhat Nayak, Krishna Das, Dipak Madhuwal, Sabita Behera, Abdul Habib, Saroj Satapathy, Jeet Patnaik, Samarjit Goswami, Gobinda Behera, Dilip Ghosh, Shravan Gop, Sheikh Nurul Hasan, Sheikh Nizam, Manish Behera, Amit Baitha and Biduraj Soren, among others. More than a hundred party leaders and workers participated in the meeting and took part in the discussions.
