District Level Working Meeting of Tobacco Free Campaign 2.0 Held; Every village in Mayurbhanj will be tobacco free now

Baripada: 11.11.2024// While the negative impact of tobacco on health is a cause of concern all over the world, now the tobacco free campaign 2.0 has been started for the youth in the state. In this regard, on Monday, District Health Sub-Division chaired by Additional District Collector Ri Netranand Mallik, district level tobacco free campaign 2.0 progress meeting was held. In this meeting, District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pangam Kumar Behera informed all the officials present about all the steps of this awareness campaign which have been implemented in the district so far and which are to be carried forward. To reduce the use of tobacco, the drug awareness campaign in the district was highlighted and during 2022-24, 47 squads were implemented in the district and a total fine of Rs. 59040 was collected. So far 117 Sarpanchs from 10 blocks have been trained in various places like schools, colleges, public places, every retreat and the program will continue. According to the information, till now in 160 schools various competitions, oath readings, trainings are being given by the district health director to create awareness about the problem of tobacco among the youth. 20 villages in the district will be freed from tobacco and more than 30 villages are planned to be spread through information, education and communication by the Health Department. However, the tobacco free campaign started this year has started from 24th September and will continue till 24th November. Therefore, social media has been made a big base to scale up the campaign, aiming to reach more and more people with this message. For this purpose, the Department of Information and Public Relations, Police Administration, Rural Development, Panchayatiraj, Education, Housing and Urban Development, Sports and Youth Affairs, Tribal Welfare Department will conduct the Tobacco Free Campaign 2.0 under the supervision of the District Collector. Awareness marathons, rallies, radio messages, folk art, art exhibitions, social media campaigns and street plays will be used to create awareness about tobacco cessation. . . . .
