Two-Day Training Programme on Natural Farming and PGS-India Certification Held in Baripada
Baripada: A two-day training programme on Natural Farming and PGS-India Certification was organised at the Office of the District Agriculture Officer in Baripada. Natural farming is an eco-friendly agricultural practice that promotes crop production without the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides or harmful synthetic substances. It emphasises the use of natural resources and traditional farming practices to maintain soil fertility and protect the environment. Farmers can prepare bio-fertilisers and natural pest-control solutions using cow dung, cow urine, compost, organic manure, neem leaves and other natural ingredients. Crop rotation, mixed cropping, mulching and rainwater harvesting are also important components of natural farming. This farming method helps improve soil health and fertility, conserve water, protect biodiversity and promote the production of safe and healthy food. It also reduces cultivation costs and helps farmers achieve long-term economic stability. Speaking during the training programme, Assistant District Agriculture Officer Madhusmita Jena said that natural farming would contribute to farmers' prosperity and play a leading role in building a strong and healthy India. Agriculture Assistant Director Dr. Manoj Kumar, District Agriculture Officer Gyan Ballav Das, and Senior Scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dr. Sanghamitra Pattnaik, along with other officials and farmers, attended the programme. Dr. Manoj Kumar, District Agriculture Officer Gyan Ballav Das and Senior Scientist Dr. Sanghamitra Pattnaik discussed the benefits of natural farming, its successful implementation and improved agricultural practices. They also guided farmers on how to adopt this method and take their farming activities forward successfully. The programme highlighted that natural farming is not only beneficial for farmers but also plays an important role in protecting nature, promoting sustainable agriculture and ensuring a healthy and prosperous future for coming generations.
