Baripada 4/8: The Post-Graduate students and faculty from the Department of Kudmali at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU), Ranchi, completed a historic academic and cultural field tour to Odisha, marked by a high-level institutional visit to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo (MSCB) University, Baripada, on 1 August 2026.The delegation met with the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of MSCB University, Prof. Mahendra Kumar Mohanty, to present a formal proposal requesting the establishment of a Post-Graduate Department of Kudmali at the university. The delegation highlighted that Kudmali is a vital folk language of Eastern India spoken widely by various tribal and non-tribal communities. They further noted that the department is already running successfully across multiple universities in Jharkhand and West Bengal, and extending it to Odisha would significantly boost the preservation of the region's shared linguistic heritage.During their time on campus, the DSPMU delegation actively collaborated with the faculty of MSCB University's Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies. The students toured the university campus, explored advanced scientific equipment in the anthropology laboratories, and studied rare regional artifacts, indigenous textiles, and tribal art housed inside the university's Ethnographic Museum. This institutional visit was a core component of a larger educational excursion across the Mayurbhanj region. The Department of Kudmali, DSPMU, expressed its deepest gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahendra Kumar Mohanty as well as Dr. Basanta Kumar Mohanta, Head of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, and the entire MSCB University fraternity for their academic mentorship, coordination, and warm hospitality.
